Marzenna Anna Weresa, Ph.D., a full professor of Economics, the director of the World Economy Research Institute at the Warsaw School of Economics (Poland). She holds Ph.D. degree in Economics (1995) and habilitation in Economics (2002) from the Warsaw School of Economics (Poland). In 1999-2000 she worked as a research fellow at the University College London, doing research on foreign direct investment and its impact on host economies. Her research and academic teaching focus on international economics, in particular, issues relating to FDI, technology transfer, innovation as well as the effects of FDI and foreign trade on competitiveness. She authored and co-authored over 100 books and scientific articles. She has been carried out many advisory projects for enterprises and governmental organizations in the field of internationalization strategies, R&D and innovation.  In 2012-14 she was a member of the High Level Economic Policy Expert Group – i4g, providing an advice to the European Commission on policies for research and innovation and how to turn them into growth. Since May 2014 she is a member of the Research, Innovation and Science Policy Expert (RISE) High Level Group (HLG) assisting the DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission  in formulating recommendations for the achievement and functioning of the European Research Area (ERA) and implementing the EU research and innovation policies.
